I want to write a book, but what do I write about?
There are different ways to arrive at a written work. For some people, there is a story that they are burning to tell and the only hurdle is buckling down and getting it on paper. For others, writing (on its own) is the passion and the obstacle is finding something that you are passionate enough about to commit to writing. If you are in the latter group, this is your week! For the next 5 days I will be dropping prompts that can lead you to the story you want to tell.
These five exercises are tailored to help you dig down and find a story that will flow naturally from a place of authenticity. Think of these daily activities as breadcrumbs to help you find your way to the book that you can write in your own unique voice.
ACTIVITY ONE
Think of a moment in your life when you felt particularly confused, untethered, or lost. In one to two sentences, describe what was going on in your life at that time. Write down your age at the time, where you were living, and who the three most important people in your life were.
Now, imagine that you could go back in time and give one piece of advice to that version of yourself. Be thoughtful here. You know what is coming next in time for that version of you. You also know what he/she will need and what his/her weaknesses are. Write down that advice, then meet us back here for the Day 2 Activity.
